Title A name given to the resource RCA's “Treasure Chest” Adventures: Technician Service Caddy (1950–1952) Subject The topic of the resource RCA; Radio; TV; Broadcast; 1950s; Tubes; Description An account of the resource This is a rare "Treasure Chest" tube caddy awarded to RCA technicians as a prize for excellent service. During a specific promotion in the early 1950s, RCA technicians could collect 10 "treasure coins" and turn them in for this exclusive "Treasure Chest" caddy. Only the best of the best were rewarded the caddy as earning those coins weren't easy! Often, many electrical units back then were at times very dangerous to service and repair. Definitely a risky job! This particular designed unit was created and used during the important transitional period from radio to TV tubes. It was only available for a specific promotional campaign making the caddy not available commercially. It's very important historically for how it was awarded to only the most excellent and skilled RCA technicians who could collect those 10 treasure coins during that era. It features a red-brown exterior, black wooden interior, square latches, and a leather-strap compartment for fuses. Several fuses are still sitting attached ready for anything! This is a remarkable historic piece of broadcasting history that features 64+ tubes and tube boxes, tools, handwritten technician notes, and many other assortments; naming this RCA caddy a time capsule frozen in time and truly museum-worthy! It features battery-powered functionality, 1/4" and headphone out, modulation and delay FX, and a built-in speaker. This unit also features an electro-theremin; a type of instrument The Beach Boys used in Good Vibrations. Instead of using the air to play notes you play sliding the notes on a physical sliding mechanism. Author's Notes: Unfortunately, I got a defective unit with a non-working speaker and headphone out. Although I never quite use the built-in speaker anyway. It may be an easy fix. But thankfully, the 1/4" out still works! The Theremini was launched in July 2014. The instrument uses a wave table synth (derived from the Animoog) with absolutely no analog voltage-controller oscillators. You can use the Moog Theremini software to customize, recall, and save your presets using a computer or tablet. Title A name given to the resource Moog's Claravox Treasures: Claravox Centennial (Theremin) Description An account of the resource The Moog Claravox Centennial was first manufactured in the early 2020s by Moog Music, Inc. These theremins were hand put together at the Moog Factory. Although many early serials were defective and repaired, the Claravox when it's environmental needs are understood; can be a great performing precision instrument. This theremin is quite controversial and with many buggy issues; it doesn't seem to have the greatest reputation. Despite it's buggy nature; this theremin does sound and look quite beautiful! I truly believe with a little work the Claravox can work well when the instrument's needs are provided. Interference! I have been experimenting for years on how to get this theremin in near perfect playing for intense gigs. I'm fortunate enough to have obtained the wooden stand which does help a lot with interference and strange happenings vs using a metal stand. Little things like to set it off but I am on a mission to find the perfect, easily recreated, theremin environment! The theremin has built in delay, custom saved presets, MIDI, CV, and a way to connect to the app. I pair my Claravox with a UA Solo/610 tube preamp for that RCA theremin spirit! NOTE: This theremin has been modified via the volume antenna loop. I believe Moog cut down some of the metallic plating where you insert the antenna into the Claravox body.
